Big months ahead: costs that come once a year

Ahead lists the large costs that come round once or a few times a year, read from your own history, so you can save for them before they arrive.

Why use it

Insurance, school fees and festival months are the costs that break a monthly budget when they arrive unplanned.

Where to find itAhead, in the "Big months ahead" card.

Before you start

  • Pro, the free trial or a family plan
  • About a year of entries for the best results

How to do it

  1. Open Ahead and find "Big months ahead".

  2. Read each item: what it is, when it is expected, and about how much.

  3. Select "Make it a goal" to start saving for it. The goal is named for the cost and the month.

What happens next: Each large cost you choose has a goal, so it is planned for instead of a surprise.

What it finds

  • Bills that come every quarter or year, found in your entries.
  • The same payee at about the same time each year.
  • Months when a category ran well above its usual level last year.

How sure it is

Each is an estimate from your own history, not a bill. Practice entries and transfers to savings never count.

If something goes wrong

"Nothing large is due in the next twelve months from what you have recorded."

With less than a year of entries there may be nothing to find yet. Importing older statements helps (/help-center/import-a-statement).

An item says "Goal exists".

You already made a goal for it. Open Goals to add to it.
